What is layer height?

Example of different layer heights close up (all3dp)

The layer height is how thick each upwards Z movement is in a 3D print. A thicker layer means visible lines are more noticeable in your part. The finer the layer height, the longer a print takes. A finer layer height also means a weaker print. The sweet spot for a strong print is usually 0.15mm layers. Most printers can achieve 0.05mm layers, but using a smaller nozzle can make them even finer. Larger nozzles are also available, which means faster prints and stronger parts. When we print something for you we can help you choose your layer height.
