Choosing a Material

PLA

PLA is the most popular material in 3D printing. It can be printed fast, it is low cost and has many color options and additives such as wood fill. PLA cannot tolerate high temperatures and is very brittle, but it is suitable for most prints.


PETG

PETG is also a very popular printing material. PETG is used for clear water bottles. Dyes can be added to attain a wide variety of colors. PETG softens at 185°F. It adheres to itself very well and is more flexible than PLA. PETG is also stronger than PLA.


ASA/ABS

ASA and ABS are very similar. They can withstand more heat and abuse than PETG. Most plastic things you own are made out of ABS, like Lego bricks. ASA is easier to print than ABS and does not fade in the sunlight, due to its UV resistance.


Poly Carbonate

Poly carbonate is very strong. It adheres to itself very well, resists bending and can withstand very high temperatures. It is a great material and has many uses including power transmission gears.


TPU/FLEX

TPU is a flexible material that has similar properties to silicone, though it is much stronger. It is a useful material. it works very well for flexible part applications.
